Sunny skies prevailed over Drexelbrook Special Event Center on Thursday, May 30 for its highly anticipated Holiday Inn & Suites hotel unveiling.
The rain held out for more than 250 invited guests who attended the celebration and tour.
“We are so excited to open our New Holiday Inn & Suites connected to our Special Event Center,” said
CEO/General Manager Domenick Savino CPCE in a statement. “Now we can offer our guests everything they need to plan and enjoy the wedding of their dreams. Guests can stay right on property and enjoy the many amenities such as ultra-modern rooms, indoor saltwater pool, Street Light Bar & Grill, fitness center, room service, walking path along with pre and post wedding parties,” Savino said.
The new hotel is a game changer for the county and event industry, offering Delaware County hotel accommodations. “With the addition of the Holiday Inn & Suites, this takes the stellar Drexelbrook Events Center to a whole new level for meetings, conferences and special events within the region,” said Jim Cohn, publisher/editor of Mid-Atlantic Events Magazine. Whether its long weekends, wedding weekends, date night, or facilitating conference accommodations, the new hotel is the perfect complement to Drexelbrook Special Event Center.
The celebration demonstrated exactly that. It began with live music by BVTLive!, signature drinks and passed hors d-oeuvres such as Drexelbrook Catering’s famous chicken and waffle bites with that hint of spicy sweet maple syrup. Then under the portico, the doors opened, inviting guests a seat under tents facing the hotel entrance and manicured landscape.
William Kay II, general partner for Drexelbrook Associates officially cut the ribbon marking the opening of the 86,000 square-foot facility spanning six stories. “This is a special time in the life of Drexelbrook,” said Kay, who will be celebrating 60 years at Drexelbrook. “I’d like to thank all of you for celebrating another milestone in our long, storied history. Drexelbrook has been and continues to be a very special place,” he said, having been home to thousands of celebrations and celebrity sightings. In fact, in addition to weddings, proms, events and conferences, the late Dick Clark, a resident at the time, filmed episodes of his show American Bandstand onsite.
Planning on making his own history, Holiday Inn & Suites Philadelphia at Drexelbrook General Manager Brian Walker thanked his team and welcomed guests. “I have every intention of making this a place that people want to come to and more importantly, come back to,” said Walker, an Upper Darby native.
The ultra-modern boutique hotel offers a warm atmosphere featuring 86 guest rooms, 12 suites, and two executive suites. Many rooms open to striking stream views and beautiful trees. Other amenities include an indoor salt water pool and fitness center. Its restaurant and bar, Street Light is open daily for breakfast and dinner with ample seating. Its doors lead to a beautiful patio and lounge set against mature trees and the Darby Creek.
And of course, there’s direct access to the award-winning Drexelbrook Special Event Center. The Delaware County wedding venue offers onsite catering, several elegant ballrooms, scenic terraces, gazebo and gardens, grand porte-cochère, firepits and fireplaces. The hotel’s business center and meeting room is a great amenity for corporate meetings in addition to Drexelbrook’s large new Franklin Conference Center with its three breakout rooms, spacious boardroom, pre-function space with a built-in refreshment area.
