Vincent van Gogh once stated, “I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”

We can’t disagree with the famed painter, and for an art lover, there couldn’t be a dreamier wedding venue than a museum, gallery, or theater space. So, we’ve cultivated a list of our favorite Philadelphia spots for those with a creative streak.

Pennsylvania Academy for the Arts

As the oldest art museum and school in the country, the Pennsylvania Academy for the Arts is a stunning selection for your celebration. This charming red brick building is an exquisite choice, and with acquisitions such as Mary Cassatt, Andrew Wyeth, and other prominent American artists, as well as featuring the works of current PAFA students, there certainly will be no shortage on decoration.

Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

This notable Philly venue is a remarkable folk art backdrop for a marriage ceremony. The colorful, impressive indoor mosaics and ceramics make for an unforgettable experience, and the outdoor labyrinth present vibrant photography opportunities as well. However, is to be noted that the Philadelphia Magic Gardens is not open to book private events on the weekends, so this might be more of an ideal venue for those looking to have a more intimate, untraditional celebration on a weekday.

James A. Michener Art Museum

The James A. Michener Art Museum is the perfect blend of history and art for couples who are enamored with both studies. Originally built as Bucks County Prison in 1885, the impressive fieldstone walls and gothic structure serve as a fantastic setting for your Philadelphia area wedding. Now the Michener Art Museum is completely renovated and it can hold up to 180 guests, allowing you to surround your wedding party and guests with sculptures and the museum’s noted Impressionist collection.

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Be in the presence of Matisse, Homer, and Degas, and other greats too numerous to mention, on your wedding day at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the self-described, “cultural heart of the city.” No matter the season, the emblematic museum steps are a photogenic scene, overlooking the cityscape. Inside, the grand staircase and the world-class collections provide an elegant reception space.

Goggleworks Center for the Arts

Set in Reading, Pennsylvania, the Goggleworks Center for the Arts is an industrial and modern space that showcases community art. With expansive windows emitting plenty of natural light, and exposed pipework and brick walls, Goggleworks is an elegant venue. There’s four different spacious studio spaces available, as well as a gallery and a film theater that’s procurable to rent as well.

The Suzanne Roberts Theater

Don’t think we’ve forgotten about the performative arts! If you feel like you were born to take center stage, the Suzanne Roberts Theater is the perfect setting for a modern wedding. With the stunning auditorium accommodating up to a maximum of 375 guests, there’s plenty of plush orchestra, mezzanine and box seating available. Your wedding party is granted access backstage and in the dressing rooms as well, and the amenities include on-site parking, a box office, and the concession stand.
