Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Founded in 1889, The Racquet Club is a well-known and much-beloved National Historic Landmark in Philadelphia. It was designed by renowned architect, Horace Trumbauer.

About

One century ago, Philadelphia high society was impressed by The Racquet Club, instantly adding it as a must-join enclave. It was a posh country club in the heart of Center City.

Today, the historic building continues to impress with its stately grand staircase, soaring ceilings, marble floors, ornate millwork, original artwork, and vintage appointments. In fact, it retains a timeless quiet majesty. It is a jewel-like reminder of Philadelphia's rich heritage and sophistication. The Racquet Club's facilities are considered to be among the finest in the city.

Weddings & Events

Indulge in a candlelit ceremony in the grand rotunda followed by cocktails by the fireplace in the Reading Room during cooler months. Relax in classic leather couches and chairs while jazz notes linger from The Club's piano. You will feel like a member of its elite period English-style club.

Capacity

The Racquet Club can host up to 250 guests.

Reviews

I'm getting married at the Racquet Club this June. Everyone at Jeffrey A. Miller Catering (JAM) & the Racquet Club has been great so far! We first met with Laura at the venue about a year ago - she took a lot of time to show us around the venue & answer all of our questions. After seeing the space & meeting with her, choosing to have our wedding reception there was an easy decision. The venue is so beautiful and spacious. Over the past year, Laura has always been very accessible through E-mail to answer questions. The staff at the Racquet Club has been very helpful too - they were courteous enough to let me parents drop by on a week day to look at the space and the upstairs guest rooms (which are an added bonus of this venue). Last weekend we had our tasting at the Racquet Club which was so much fun & so well-run by JAM. My fiance & I can't wait for our big day & for all of our guests to see how amazing the Racquet Club & JAM are!

I visited this establishment because the Wine Club at my university was hosting a wine tasting in their Reading Room. With the lush red walls, ornate window trims and tall curtains, I felt like I had stepped back to a different era, when time flowed at a slower pace and everyone moved with sophistication. When I got there, the wines and cheeses were already laid out so I didn't get to experience any of the service first hand but I am impressed by the ambiance and history of the establishment. More than anything else, I love how relaxed the place made me feel, which is what such a venue should be judged on, I reckon.

I was married at the Racquet Club in September 2012 and had a wonderful experience. It is a super pretty place that is much more unique than a hotel ballroom because it's historical and has unique architecture. It also has a city vibe, located just a few blocks from Rittenhouse Square. You are required to use Jeffrey Miller Catering, which has really amazing food. We're foodies that live in NYC so we're super picky about food, and JMC did not disappoint. It was not "wedding food." Also, JMC assigns a wedding coordinator to handle all of the details. Coordinator Marc Liss was fantastic especially for a detail oriented person like myself. An added bonus is that you can rent the basement bar room for an after party (for an additional fee of course), which is super fun and gives you more time to interact with your guests.

In short, I would highly recommend the Racquet Club!
