Cake Pops: Sweet Treats for Your Philadelphia Wedding

Cake pops are a fun customizable party favor for your Philadelphia wedding. Or, they can be an addition to your dessert table. And the best part, with practice, cake pops can be a do-it-yourself project, freeing up space in your wedding budget.

One of my favorite cake pops to make are mini wedding cakes. Guests enjoy them because they are just a couple bites of decadence and easy to eat.

Use a traditional white chocolate (or pink, if you like) and embellish it with small white-on-white polka dots or intermittent fancy swirls. However, these minis can be embellished with small flower sprinkles or infused with a splash of color (white chocolate comes in many colors) to match the bridal party's theme. If you have a steady hand and are skilled with a toothpick and melted chocolate as your medium, initials can easily be added on one of the tiers. Top it off with a decorative candy heart, wrap it in clear plastic treat bags and tie with a matching fabric ribbon. Sheer fabric ribbons can be used to make it extra elegant for your Philadelphia wedding party favors.

Bakerella has many tutorials on basic cake pop making. The best recipes are homemade. So, fast forward to Bakerella's cake ball step and from there, take a medium-sized circle fondant cutter and fit the cake pop into it until it is flush. Then take a knife to edge over and remove any excess. Repeat this step for as many cake pops as you would like to make. Refrigerate them in a covered container.

In the meantime, do the same step but with the small circle fondant cutter. Melt the white chocolate in the microwave for about 20 seconds, take a spoon and stir. Put it in another 15 seconds until creamy. Avoid over heating the chocolate. Take 6 inch lollipop sticks and slowly press through the center of the larger cake pop circle and add the second tier. Pour over the two with the melted chocolate, tapping off excess right away and place on a secure Styrofoam or even better custom cake pop board to dry. Once dry, add a second layer of white chocolate. Decorate away, cover with plastic treat bags and tie with the ribbon.
